Trixbox Pro with H323?
I am using TB CE for testing today. My goal is to move to TB Pro CCE in the end, but wanted to see what I could expect from the product (softphones really). One of the things I have done is to setup an H323 trunk on the CE platform to tie into my IP Office swtich. So extensions from either can call one another. My question is, can I setup this same functionality in Pro?
I see in the comparisons that Pro isn't fully extensible. What exactly is allowed in Pro? While Pro is very nice looking, I am wondering how much the product is crippled. The H323 trunk isnt a deal killer, it just sucks to have to use a PRI line on the IP Office to call the trixbox down the hall.
As for Hud Pro, well that seems to be a very nice product, but there are others closing the gaps pretty quick. ASTassistant is in its infancy, but has real potential. And I know that there are other reporting tools that can be installed on Asterisk to give me the metrics Pro provides.
Of course I would just as soon buy Pro to do all of this, but not if it is too crippled. Comments?
I found this out on the web somewhere.
Basically you have to create a new IP line under "Lines" in the IP office pointing to the IP of the trixbox.
Then on the TB you need to install and configure OpenH323. Once that is installed you will configure an H323 Trunk pointing to the IPO, and setup your dial plan to allow calls to be sent to/from each. The only thing in the H323 trunk that is of any real value is the custom dial string. Here is mine: OOH323/$OUTNUM$@172.16.8.2:1720 where the IP of my IPO installation is 172.16.8.2.
In the IPO you will have to make sure your shortcodes are setup correctly so there isn't any overlap when a SIP extension is dialed. And make sure on the shortcode your setup uses the right Line Group ID so it knows which Line to use (the one you just setup).
Do a search on Openh323 and trixbox or Asterisk. I think I had to piece this together with a few different posts out there, but that was over a year ago.
