thats what you are trying to

thats what you are trying to do. The rebuild_zaptel script hasn't done anything since trixbox 2.0. You do not want to install from source, it will prevent you from updating via the package manager later. Again, what are you trying to accomplish? Zaptel gets installed automatically.

it is not showing as using an IRQ. Move it to another slot. Yes, that sounds silly, but try it.

Fresh install of 2.2.4 and I

Fresh install of 2.2.4 and I echo the above statements about TDM not detecting. cat /proc/interrupts is only going to show you interrupts of hardware where the device is properly loaded and in this case, the device isn't loading.

lspci properly shows detected hardware as Tiger jet Network Inc. Tiger3XX Modem/ISDN interface.

I've tried moving to another slot; but that produced no change.

This only occurs with 2.2.4. Hardware had working version of 2.0 w/updates.

I have exactly the same problem with an X100P card. It was working fine with TB 2.2 but a fresh installation of 2.2.4 the card fails to initialise.

As baran has already stated, the card is displayed in lspci, but genzaptelconf fails to find it.

I have tried moving the card to another slot and tried changing its interupt in the BIOS but these appear to make no difference.

during the installation I see this :-
preparing packages for installation...
zaptel-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.19-3_SMP
FATEL: Could not open '/boot/system.map-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp':no such file or dir
ectory
error:Failed dependencies:
zaptel = 1.2.10 is needed by zaptel modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.18-6_SMP.i686

looks like libpri is going to be the culprit here if I read this right. it's expecting 1.2.19 and packages indicates 1.2.19-3

so, how do we go about fixing?

rpm -del zaptel* yum install

rpm -del zaptel*
yum install zaptel*

oh now you're just guessing.... ;)

...I can make wild-ass guesses if that's all that's needed here.

If you'll note the output above; zaptel isn't ever installing; but just for grins, I tried what you ask...

rpm- del zaptel*
package zaptel is not installed

rpm -del zaptel
Failed dependencies:
libtimezone.so.1.0 is needed by (installed) asterisk-1.2.23-1.i386
zaptel = 1.2.19 is needed by (installed) zaptel-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.19-3_SMP.i586
zaptel >= 1.2.19 is needed by (installed) libpri-1.2.5-2.i386
zaptel >= 1.2.18 is needed by (installed) asterisk-1.2.23-1.i386

tried to remove libpri as well, and that refused as well.

i was able to forcibly remove zaptel by doing rpm -del zaptel --nodeps
and then do a yum install zaptel*
during the install, it produced:
...
Installing: zaptel-echo_mg2-modules-2.6. ........
FATAL: Could not open '/boot/System.map-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp': No such file or directory
same fatal errors after
Installing: zaptel-echo_oslec-modules-2. .........
Installing: zaptel-echo_octastic-modules- .........

At this point, I did a genzaptelconf and it DID find the card and modules. The modules did light on the card, but I had to run it yet again for it to actually build the zaptel.conf

I checked and the mg2, oslec and octastic portions of the zaptel ARE showing as installed (did this by rpm -del zaptel) and it showed me the dependencies were there and wouldn't let me actually del zaptel, as I expected.

at this point I did a yum -y update to square everything up and that completed without issue. It "appears" to be working at this point; but you really need to take a look at the installer, something is really borked here. I see a 2.2.4-2 iso required...

Now, the registration is busted!
upon submit...

Warning: fopen(/var/www/html/.regData): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/html/maint/modules/27_registrationTool/index.php on line 83

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /var/www/html/maint/modules/27_registrationTool/index.php on line 84

We are building new zaptel

We are building new zaptel modules, sometime today you should be able to do:

yum clean all
yum install zaptel*

**kerryg: WHY are you trying

**kerryg: WHY are you trying rebuild_zaptel? I don't understand what you are trying to do? Rebuild it from source?

I think a lot of the confusion comes from video (and other) tutorials by a certain Kerry Garrison at asterisktutorials.com, that tell you to first delete the existing zaptel drivers, reinstall them, then run rebuild_zaptel, etc, etc

The tutorial doesnt mention the distribution or version, and following the instructions on current builds of trixbox will mess things up badly.

I've been searching for current tutorials and install guides, and getting a lot of old stuff. Where should we go for this?

zaptel

I would not do yum install zaptel*

You only load the version you wish to use.

Like yum -y install zaptel-echo_oslec-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.E 1.2.19-2

Depending on your setup

recompile zaptel - clear concise instructions please!

hello all,

i know kerry g explicitly advises against recompiling zaptel, for certain upgrade and update worries, but some of us just have to do so. for example, the asterisk zaptel drivers do not have country indications for my country (country=turkey, +90), and apparently these need to go into zonedata.c, and the package needs to recompiled. so for me this 'recompiling' step is unavoidable. i've read many articles that mention lots of other packages and dependencies and things that need to be taken care of in a proper sequence to get this to work, and as I've spent quite a bit of time configuring this system, i don't really want to have to do it all over again.

In light of all this, can I please ask that these country indications (available from http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+indications+Turkey) be put into the next and all future trixbox updates, and in the meantime could somebody (kerry g?) be so kind as to post exact instructions on what one must do on an install which was done from the trixbox 2.0 iso? and i'm talking about a step by step, just for idiots kind of guide, as I have no experience with linux whatsoever.

Having said that, here are my installation informations:

TRIXBOX 2.0 INSTALL ISO (CDROM)
------------------------------------------
Asterisk 1.2.13 svn rev 47264
FreePBX 2.2.0rc3
Zaptel drivers working for a TDM400, with 2 x FXO, 2 x FXS (*)

(*) The problem i'm having is that when I get a call from PSTN, and the caller hangs up, asterisk doesn't seem to recognize this, and waits on the line for about 3 minutes. Also, callerid does not work. I need to 'fix' these two issues, and I'm all set. My hope is with the country indications, to be put in zonedata.c and also in zaptel.conf. Right now, my zaptel.conf is set to US-us, and i'm guessing that this is the problem. I might be wrong, and am open to any suggestions, advice, comments, or instructions. :-)

Well, now i'd like to thank everyone who has put obviously tremendous time and effort to make such a wonderful system, and wish that you can keep it up. Thanks to all the trixbox folks.

I had to run genzaptelconf 3

I had to run genzaptelconf 3 times after I did the

yum clean all
yum install zaptel*

for trixbox to finally install the cards correctly.

same here

Although I only needed to run genzaptelconf 2 times :-)

I initally thought I must have killed my Digium card after downloading the latest ISO and doing a new install, and was getting kinda worried when I did a new install onto another PC (with a spare HD) and then plugged in my card to get eh same results.
So now, I have new acronym..... we all know "RTFM" well I have a new one "RTFF" (replace manual with forum) :-)

Not only that, I was also encouraged to find that the last post was only a day or so ago, so I was even more relieved, and now of course, I am up and running again....only waisted 5 hrs or so :-)

keep getting the same problem

Hi,
I have done both rpm -del zapata --nodep and yum clean all, yum install zapatel* but still my card isn't recognized by genzaptelconf. I have both a Phoniceq QuadBri card and a Wildcard TDM400. I have swapped PCI slots (only two available) and changed IRQ in BIOS.
After manually editing /etc/zaptel.com I get:

I am having the same problem

I am having the same problem and have tried every idea in here and all have failed. It is like it is installed but not all the way so when I try to delete it, it can't delete. Yum install and update didn't work even after yum clean all. I did get it to go once and it downloaded all the packages and installed them and then gave me a fatal error:

I tried switching PCI slots and that didn't do anything to help me. When it boots up it says FATAL: module zaptel not found when leading zaptel. I also checked in my boot folder and i don't have System.map-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp, just the EL one. Any other Ideas?

I -HAD- The Same Problem

I had the exact same problem as the original poster with the recompiled Zaptel and having it refusing to come online after a reboot. It looked to have built ok, no errors etc but the problem ended up being me fiddling around with the kernel's .config file

I was trying to play around with installing a TV card, (this is only a home PABX connecting a few family members around the world) and I added a 'Local Version append' to identify the soon to be recompiled kernel, which ended up not compiling anyway and I didn't bother going back into 'make menuconfig' to remove the append.

So every time I rebuilt zaptel it would put the modules in the wrong directory structure. As soon as I went back to 'vanilla', and recomplied Zaptel, all was well and I had zap back. Halleluja!

So...... if you have been having a play with building your own kernel; be warned; this may be the cause of your issue.

I fixed my problem. I removed the ELsmp ones, restarted, and did the rebuild zaptel command then genzaptelconfig and it is working now.

real issue is SMP vs. non-smp kernels

FWIW - I think the problem here is exclusive to installing 2.2.4 iso on non-SMP boxes. Anyone here fit that description? I don't think the install was tested on a non-smp box otherwise the problem would have been found right away. All the zaptel modules on the iso are for SMP kernels so that's why the rpm never gets installed or fits dependencies.

In case you didn't figure it out yet...

It seems that the 2.2.4 ISO does not have the needed non smp zaptel rpms.

2.2.3 build: /trixbox.tar.gz/rpms/

you can find
zaptel-modules-2.9.34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.18-6_SMP.i686.rpm
zaptel-modules-2.9.34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.18-6.i686.rpm
zaptel-modules-2.9.34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.18-6.i586.rpm

on 2.2.4 you'll find: /trixbox.tar.gz/rpms/
zaptel-modules-2.9.34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.19-3_SMP.i686.rpm
zaptel-modules-2.9.34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.19-3_SMP.i586.rpm
zaptel-modules-2.9.34.0.2.ELsmp-1.2.18-6_SMP.i686.rpm

Hope you get it right for the next release

Non SMP Zaptel Problem: Newbie steps for correction?

Gentlemen: It appears I have a similar problem with proc/modules for zaptel not loading. I am afraid I don't understand the missing rpms, or how to be sure to get them.

I have tried the to steps to clean and reinstall zaptel; and genzaptelconf. No luck.

I do have 2.2.3 build.

A simpler set of instructions or cookbook would help. I would rather not lose configuration files be doing a wipe and reinstall to insure all modules get loaded.

Is there a link to another forum thread that gives the steps?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

zaptel module is not installing

It is critical that kernel version & zaptel packages versions are in sync - for example:
kernel-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL
zaptel-echo_mg2-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL-1.2.19-1
The emphasis is on 2.6.9-34 being the same

For example if your kernel is 2.6.9-55.* and zaptel packeges are 2.6.9-34.* then asterisk will not detect zaptel cards.

I am not sure how mismatched versions get into the system but they do. For example up2date will doit. yum -y update may do it too. Even the best intantioned user's admins may do it. Some downloads or re-compling may do it.

The moral of the story is keep kernel and zaptel packages in sync. If you do, then genzaotelconf will find your card and configure it properly

Hope this helps

2.2.4 Non-SMP

I am having the same issues with 2.2.4 and a TDM400P card that works just fine with 2.0 when I run genzaptelconf. Any update on how to fix this?

I have put up 4 boxes now

I have put up 4 boxes now with 2.2.4 - and they are all the same - nonSMP IBM X series 3105 servers. On all 4 I had to yum install zaptel* before I could install the wanpipe and setup my Sangoma cards....

yes that will work but...

yes that will work but it also installs several items that you don't want.

I talked with Kerry today about it supplying detailed documentation as to what is wrong, and what needs to be fixed.

The 2.2.4 distrobution has a problem with non-smp builds as it is missing the non-smp zaptel-modules. It loads the SMP version instead. The drivers for the non-smp are not included in the ISO which is why it is a problem. I'm guessing now that they have details of exactly how to reproduce the problem and what is needed to fix it there might be a update soon (I hope).

In the mean time there is a driver that is loaded that is not needed and you then need to install the needed one. Happens that yum install zaptel* will load that along with 5 others that are not needed.

So here is how you find out what is loaded:

at the command line type: rpm -qa | grep zaptel
you should see something like:
zaptel.i686 1.2.19-3 installed
zaptel-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp.i686 1.2.19-3_SMP installed

Then to see what your choices are type: yum list | grep zaptel

and you will see something like
zaptel.i586 1.2.19-1 trixbox
zaptel.i386 1.2.19-1 trixbox
zaptel-echo_mg2-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL. 1.2.19-1 trixbox
zaptel-echo_mg2-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL. 1.2.19-1 trixbox
zaptel-echo_mg2-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELs 1.2.19-1_SMP trixbox
zaptel-echo_mg2-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELs 1.2.19-1_SMP trixbox
zaptel-echo_octasic-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2 1.2.19-3 trixbox
zaptel-echo_octasic-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2 1.2.19-3 trixbox
zaptel-echo_octasic-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2 1.2.19-3_SMP trixbox
zaptel-echo_octasic-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2 1.2.19-3_SMP trixbox
zaptel-echo_oslec-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.E 1.2.19-2 trixbox
zaptel-echo_oslec-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.E 1.2.19-2 trixbox
zaptel-echo_oslec-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.E 1.2.19-2_SMP trixbox
zaptel-echo_oslec-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.E 1.2.19-2_SMP trixbox
zaptel-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL.i586 1.2.19-1 trixbox
zaptel-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL.i386 1.2.19-1 trixbox
zaptel-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp.i586 1.2.19-1_SMP trixbox

yum install zaptel-echo_oc*
it will select two the smp and non-smp versions and install them. once that is done type: genzaptelconf
It does attempts to stop asterisk followed by the drivers which will generate failures as they were not loaded, then build the zaptel.conf file, start the drivers and reload asterisk and things should work.

Not a perfect solution if you don't want the echo cancelation but makes things work. To get it without the echo cancelation you need to also uninstall the zaptel-1.2.19_3 and then reload the choices for the 1.2.19_1 driver set.

Can't see the extra zaptel modules / only SMP available

This is driving me batty (and I suspect is the root source of other problems over the past few months). I like to use fanless CPU boards that are not SMP or hyperthreaded so I think I'm hitting the same problem as others above where the zaptel drivers don't install properly and hence the digium card doesn't load (even though lspci shows it correctly).

So, per above I tried: yum list | grep zaptel and got back the list:

zaptel.i686 1.2.19-29.2831 installed
zaptel-devel.i686 1.2.19-29.2831 installed
zaptel-modules.i686 1.2.19-29.2831.2.6.9_3 installed
zaptel-modules-2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp.i586 1.2.19-3_SMP installed

(this was after doing the suggested yum clean all and yum install zaptel*

I don't see any of the echo cancellation options (which I don't need, but I'll take any non-SMP version at this point!) (I tried enabling all packages but no difference).

Suggestions?

(Note that the trigger for this is running genzaptelconf and getting the error:

Loading zaptel framework: FATAL: Module zaptel not found. FAILED

thx, michael

Created a wiki page

I've created a wiki page to hopefully consolidate this info at

http://www.trixbox.org/wiki/zaptel-not-loading-2-2-x

Its just a start, so please update/correct it as you see fit.

At first glance it also appears that a fresh install of 2.2.5 fixes some of the Zaptel discovery problems on a single cpu/non HT machine and the non-SMP version is installed ok.

Hurray!

update

trixbox 2.2.5 resolves all of these problems. If you need to upgrade an existing system I have updated the wiki http://www.trixbox.org/wiki/zaptel-not-loading-2-2-x

Fixed

rpm -del zaptel --nodeps
yum clean all
yum install zaptel*

Then did the usual yum -y update and all is well again.
