Can't record voice mail greetings

After I dial *98, 0, 1 to record my greeting I am told to record my greeting after the beep. the system beeps and immidatly asks me to review my recorded message.

I am completely unable to record any voicemail greetings.

This happens with all extentions.

Any ideas?

check the permissions on your /var/spool/asterisk/voicemail/default/
directory.

It should be owned by user:asterisk group:asterisk

Ex:
drwx-w---- 4 asterisk asterisk 4096 Jun 3 21:24 200

I thested this on several systems here and did not have this problem. is this a clean install from the iso or an install from the tar.gz?
