installation problem on Vostro 200

I just got a computer we ordered from Dell and cannot get Trixbox to install. The problem appears to be with the SATA controller. The controller is an Intel ICH9. There are no other controllers on the mother board.

Does anyone know if a driver exists so I can use this computer?
Or, of any other means I can use to get Trixbox installed?

Thanks!

It will not install properly

It will not install properly on that system at this time. HOPEFULLY we will solve a few remaining issues with the trixbox 2.4 beta which uses CentOS 5. That will install onto your hardware without any issue.

Supermicro MB & Other Hardware

OK... I have some parts ready to order from NewEgg... do these look OK to use for a TrixBox install:
SUPERMICRO PDSLA Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945G ATX
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380011A 80GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive
Intel Pentium 4 650 Prescott 3.4GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
LITE-ON Black 52X CD-ROM IDE CD-ROM Drive Model LH-52N1P-185
1 GB of Ram
Sangoma A200D with one remora for total of 8 FXO ports

Should this work... or, should I get different parts?

Trixbox 2.4 release Or... do

Trixbox 2.4 release
Or... do you have a rough idea when Trixbox 2.4 might be released... I'm not looking for a firm commitment or trying to nail you down here... just trying to get a rough idea for planning purposes.

Careful of the HDD

I've had a LOT of seagate 7200.7 80gb drives die on me lately. Granted they have a 5 year warranty, but that's still a pain to deal with... I'd suggest stay with Seagate, but one of the newer series. The new .10 series is much faster as well ;).

Went with the SuperMicro

Good luck with the Vostro. According to Richard (who should know!) the upcoming version of TB 2.4 should address the issues you and I encountered.

Just FYI... I went with the parts I listed above using the SuperMicro MB as the base and had very little problems. I had to disable the USB ports and go to a PS2 mouse. While I was in CMOS I also disabled anything I was not going to be using... com, parallel, etc. But, once I did that TB installed with no issues using a SATA HD and CD/DVD. The HD I thought was IDE turned out to be SATA 3.

I got all the stuff for the machine from NewEgg... except the HD which I already had sitting around here unused. All the parts were about $350 (though my Sangoma cards were close to $900) and I will be putting the Vostro to use elsewhere.

If anyone is interested in knowing the specific of the parts I use just let me know and I can email the wishlist with the parts... or, post them here.

The e1000-7.6.9.tar.gz

The e1000-7.6.9.tar.gz driver worked for me on Centos 5 and can be downloaded at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?strState=LIVE&Pr....

Problem #1

Vostros blow, you would be better of with a white box if you are trying to save some green.

Not top of the line but

Not top of the line but really good machine.

I had the "nic issue" but after installing the e1000 driver it worked right away.

You pay about 100$ more than the ugly whitebox but you get the nicest little box.
I love DeLL!

So you vostro is working

So you vostro is working AOK?? I was thinking of getting a 400

So once you install then your nic won't work you need to download the drivers..

What kind of PCI slots do the vostro have.. Can I add my own nics and my Digium card?

Thanks
Joe
