Onboard LAN not working
Hey fellow trixbox people!
Today we ordered a new pc for our trixbox telephony system, and we wanted to install the current stable build. All went fine, trixbox booted. But the network was not working
We are using the onboard lan from a ASRock ConRoe1333 DVI-H/R2.0 motherboard. It uses a Realtek RTL8111B / RTL8168B chip.
After searching on it, we found a site telling us that the chip isn't currently supported by the centos build and that we had to install the drivers. But here is the problem. While trying to install the drivers we got numerous errors. After searching on the errors it appeared that we needed to upgrade to the latest stable linux kernel.
But how can we get that done? We downloaded the full kernel, untarred it, but what do we have to do now?
Any help on how to get the upgrade done is appreciated, and even if there is another way for getting mobo support on the realtek chip i would like to know the solution!
Thanks in advance,
Greetings, Jeroen Nijhuis
Disable the on board NIC, and install an Intel or Realtek PCI card.
That should get you going easily. I would not suggest spending too much time about the 'unrecognized' on board NIC.
That should get you started with your main object, to get the trixbox up and running in your new PC.
BTW, what's your new PC specs?
Hi Jeroen,
Have a look at this recent thread on trixbox where I posted info on this same problem. http://www.trixbox.org/forums/trixbox-forums/help/cant-find-onboa... You can d/l the realtek driver from here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&P...
The current stable tb uses Centos 4.5 and for this you need the driver for the 2.6 kernel. The readme in the download tells you how to build the driver and although I have not done this since I don't use a gig nic I read through the readme before posting in the last thread and the make instructions etc looked straight forward and as expected.
If you try to change the kernel version in trixbox you will most likely break all the other packages that are built for 2.6.
If this does not work let me know and I will try build the driver myself. Of course the previous post makes a good point - just put good 10/100 nic (I use intel or 3com etc) and Centos should recognise the new nic, or just rerun the installation disc.
