Remote extensions failing to register intermittently
I have searched through the forums and have not been able to figure out what is wrong with my remote extensions -a Linksys PAP2T and an X-Lite softphone-, which keep coming in and out my trixbox server (v2.2.4) without any human intervention. When failing, the PAP2T gives the message, "can't connect to login server" and the X-Lite throws a 408 registration error.
Needless to say, proper forwarding ports are open in the ADSL router connecting the trixbox server to the Internet, as otherwise the remote extensions would not work at all. Also, the sip.conf file contains the right information regarding externip and localnet, and has nat=yes.
I will greatly appreciate it if anybody could shed some light on how to troubleshoot this problem.
Thanks.
You say they come in and out of registration. If they drop out, what makes them come back in again, do they just come online again without intervention?
Is it a dynamic domain name issue?
You could try asterisk -r, and do a "sip set debug peer peername", and watch the registration packets.
emdan,
They have a registration cycle that makes them come back. The question is rather what makes them drop out.
Both remote extensions are connected to a cable modem through a Linksys router, so I tested for 1.5 hours with the PAP2T connected directly to the cable modem, and the problem went away!
When putting the PAP2T in the DMZ, the problem seems to go away too.
So is it a NAT problem? If so, how can I deal with it?
Thanks.
