Voicemail - checks and balances?

Odd question. I have a client that had a PBX do this, and he wants it on Trixbox/Asterisk if possible...

A call comes in after-hours (time conditions) and goes to voicemail... a general box.

Easy enough.

However, he has field technicians on-call and he wants some notification way that someone has listened to and accepted "the call" that was left.... is that even remotely possible?

Oof...had to really think

Oof...had to really think about this one for a while. Besides the easy way out of just suggesting a solution that involves a ring group with confirm calls and some sort of custom dial plan for the notification of the confirmation to the boss, to function exactly as it was previously done would be possible but a fair amount of work I think.

So you would configure the voicemail box with a vm option of externnotify to a script. That script would call out to the techs one at a time and if they answer (after doing some answering machine/voicemail detection), playback the voicemail message, then ask for confirmation. If they confirm, the script would call/email/page/whatever the boss. If none of the techs confirm, the boss gets the call and the message played back.

So unless there's a canned solution already done (didn't search), it looks possible, albeit probably fairly pricey to develop (maybe $500?)

Ethans,You hit the nail on

Ethans,

You hit the nail on the head. The ring-group idea isn't good because he doesn't want the customer(s) to sit on hold waiting and listing to music while it goes "tech to tech"... he just wants them to leave the pertinant information and then let it make it's rounds as you described.

The company in question is an A/C (air conditioning) company and this is designed for his tech(s) in the field or on call that may not be able to get to the phone "right away".

I understand there will be (or maybe assuming there isn't software already out there for this) costs for someone to develop this. It's out of my realm and I'm not interested in trying to attempt this on myself - HOWEVER, I'd be my client wouldn't have a problem with connecting them with someone (like you or...) that would be willing to develop it for the asterisk/trixbox solution that I would deploy for them here locally.

Wait a while and see if

Wait a while and see if anyone has a solution for you. If they do for lower or no cost, go for it. If not, contact me and we'll discuss the specifics. I'll be back the 26th. See signature.
