Getting random calls

I have installed version 2.4 on my machine last week and my phones ring randomly few times a day. There is no outside call coming in since I plugged a regular phone to one of the jacks and it usually rings first before my ip phones.

The calls are always exactly on either at 12 or 42 minutes after the hour when they do happen.

It looks to me like there some kind of a scheduled task that is causing this.

Any ideas?

divorce insurance

if your wife feels anything like mine about technology - you better go get your marriage insured!

I know if my phones did that I would be getting a call from her lawyer the next morning for sure - after having to hear her grumble about the "damn phones" and how i messed them up!

Good one :-) I think (hope)

Good one :-)

I think (hope) I narrowed it down to Verizon testing the line. One agent said they may be running the test few times a day, another declined. I am waiting to hear from another department.

Verizon claim they have

Verizon claim they have nothing to do with this. I moved the lines around on my TDM400 and calls again come in n the port the Verizon line is on.

I plugged another phone to the Verizon line and it does not ring, only trixbox does.

Can it be some sort of signal on the line that asterisk is reacting to?

Time conditions

You could attach a time condition to that line to send it to voicemail or to an IVR during certain hours. This would mean that the call was answered but lines did not ring. Especially with the IVR, you could give a human the chance to choose to ring the extension.

MWI

That sounds exactly like the MEssage Waiting Indicator - it rings to tell you you have voicemail waiting.

Phones that don't recognize it just handle it as a regular ring instead of doing it silently and turning on the "message" lamp.

gregjones Good idea with the

gregjones

Good idea with the time condition - will get some sleep tonight.

Although Verizon denies sending any signals for MWI I am almost sure this is what my problem is. I will have them remove this feature from my service and hopfully I will be done.

Thanks All!

I would be willing to wager

I would be willing to wager that it is mwi. Taking it off the line solved the problem for our client. (who denied it was there....which brings up rules number one....check for yourself.)
