losing my pots line

We have been getting our public phone service through the college we are located in, and have been told we need to get our own phone lines. My employer is considering Vonage. Is there any way to integrate with a service like that, so people can call and choose extensions that lead to our existing trixbox system? Right now we use a Rhino analog card connected to our pots line, which has worked perfectly.

I would think you would

I would think you would either need to port the number over to Vonage or have the number remote call forwarded to your Vonage number. You would need to check with the college if they will allow you to port the number over to your carrier of choice.

To clarify

We will end up with a new number altogether. I am wondering if there is a trixbox configuration that allows for a call to call our Vonage number, in which the trixbox would answer, and direct the caller to dial an extension. I am doing this through our pots line now, but don't know enough about trixbox to conclude you can do the same with an IP phone service.

Regadless of the source T1,

Regadless of the source T1, ISDN, POTS, SIP or IAX as long as you have the IVR setup everything will work as it did before once you have it all reconfigured.

You don't need the external

You don't need the external box or line card with Vonage, you can upgrade to a business account and setup the trunk as SIP right in trixbox. This would be much simpler and allow you to place a receive a call at the same time.

The other way with the analog card will work, to much hardware in my opinion.

There are also IP telephone providers with better service and rates than Vonage.
