No kernel update?

I know there is an exclude=kernel* in the CentOS-Base.repo, but I am on 53.1.4 on my TB, and my Centos repo is at 53.1.6

What is the 'trigger' for getting new kernels to keep us uptodate with little things like kernel security patches?

Kernel update

A kernel update would also add support for Realtek 8101 networking which seems to be on quite a few Core2 motherboards.

kernel updates

We try not to update the kernel in trixbox to often because it breaks all the kernel modules and we have to recompile and test them as well. Most kernel updates are for security fixes that have no impact on trixbox.

Can you verify that this update has a new Realtek driver? Usually they wait for major kernel releases to add drivers. If this is the case we can update the kernel. If you want to update the kernel yourself just comment out the exclude=kernel*, load a new kernel, and recompile any drivers you need form the source RPMs on our web site.
