Hello,

I have searched the forums and it seems like I am not the only person with problems with the sound running trixbox in a vmware server (but I have also seen that people have sucseeded fixing this but not the right setup for me).

I have added the following to the grub.conf:

noapic nosmp nolapic clock=pit

But it does not help me with the bad sound (the voice goes to fast). Do anybody have a better solution?

I am running vmware (latest) on a Ubuntu 7.10 desctop PC.

I have not yet installed the vmware tools as I have not found any guide for this. Does this help?

Please send me any suggestions that may help.

Best regards,

Thomas from Norway

The VMWare image is for

The VMWare image is for testing and development, it is not intended for production use due to timing issues that will cause poor call quality.

No, there is no trick, it

No, there is no trick, it doesn't work well. I have said it over and over and over. VMWare is not for production use. When you can buy a brand new system from less than $300 that will run a good size company there is simply no reason to use VMWare for a production box. It WILL NOT work properly as there is no timing source. This is an inherent problem in Asterisk today. Go on ebay and buy a Dell Optiplex for $150 and you have a killer phone system for less than the cost of 1 phone.

it is not only related to

it is not only related to the timing issues, I think it is primarily related to the overhead of all the new versions of the OS, LAMP stack, and finally Asterisk - if you go to the previous versions of all of those in VMware (ie trix 1.2.3 or 2.2x) it will work great.

There is a trick that might help some, but most likely not much-
