vTiger Revisited...

I have previously extolled the virtues of vTiger CRM and my belief that it is superior to SugarCRM-- and resultingly, I support the switch from Sugar to vTiger...

The general response is, "When someone writes the integration, this would become a potentially viable option."

Well, folks... For those who are as excited about vTiger v5.0.1 as I am, here's the URL of the relevant forum post:

http://forums.vtiger.com/viewtopic.php?p=35850#35850

And here's the download link for the necessary files for integration:

http://forums.vtiger.com/download.php?id=1712&sid=db38a3cae515fec5ff9702...

Now can we discuss the possibility of switching to vTiger? Its SOOOO much better than SugarCRM on a technical and usability basis, plus vTiger is true Open Source, not "Open Source, except the parts you really need--which will cost you cash," which seems to be the SugarCRM's modus operandi...

My two cents... :-)

Your thoughts?

Re: vTiger Revisited...

The trixbox community is always interested in the best Asterisk apps out there. There is no Asterisk integration available for vTiger so we don’t use it. The post you are referring to says that his code doesn’t really work. We use VoiceRD for SugarCRM, a product support by a company. It is mature and works very well.

The last time I tested vTiger it seemed inferior to Sugar in many ways but that was a while ago. vTiger is a fork of Sugar what are the advantages?

Re: vTiger Revisited...

vTiger has ALL the capability built-in and isn't an extension or Lite version of a commercial product (as is Sugar - side note: and how many fear Trixbox may soon become).

You only need to look at Sugar's breakdown between editions...

...there are no editions of vTiger, it's all there! :)

I have been, and will continue to monitor vTiger's progress
(time for another test load me thinx)

Thanx for the heads up!

Re: vTiger Revisited...

Excellent points... and it should be obvious from the grid shoing the editions of SugarCRM that it is necessary to buy in to get even basic functionality required for decent useability. Can anyone even imagine a CRM system without the ability to create price quotes and track them? Yes, of course you can pay for this-- but we're supposed to be the open source community.

We're supposed to make money off our expertise in configuration, troubleshooting, customization, etc.-- not off our ability to effectively close code and track license users.

If Trixbox was a commercial product, it would possibly make sense to tie to another commerical product. But its not, so it shouldn't.

I hear what Andrew's saying and I know that its critical to have a dependable and mature interface between the two. What better way for Fonality to demonstrate its commitment to the open source community and their intentions towards Trixbox than to help encourage the further development of the beta code into something stable?

By the way, I'm not worried about Fonality's intentions because the moment that they try anything with regard to closing code or making some features commercially licensed, I'm confident that the Trixbox community will abruptly fork and continue on a true open source path.

As an aside, I do not know why people are fighting the move to true open source code... Yes, we all want to get paid for our development time and I'm all for Capitalism and the American Way (no offense to our foreign friends), but I'd rather pay a legitimate expert for his or her assistance than to pay a marketing machine to crank out market share...

Trixbox is a demonstration of word-of-mouth success and superiority in code base-- and I hope that Andrew and the others integrally involved are well-rewarded for it.

Thoughts?

Re: vTiger Revisited...

again, I’m mostly just waiting for somebody to step up and write a vTiget to Asterisk Connector. Several people have told me they will but I have yet to see it.

Re: vTiger Revisited...

Andrew,

I had thought that what I found was fully-functional, so I regret it if I jumped the gun. Has anyone written the specs for what is needed? I would be happy to have my company contribute towards a donation to the one who creates a viable solution.

I recommend Trixbox and vTiger to all my clients-- so I have a vested interest in seeing them play together well. ;-)

Thanks,

Eriks

PS: The list of feature differences between Sugar and vTiger is extensive and difficult to document-- though it should be noted that vTiger was a fork that occured when Sugar started to push the paid-license model (i.e., vTiger took the best of the last free edition and ran with it).

Re: vTiger Revisited...

Jus t throwing this out there (don't know much about vtiger) but if vtiger is a fork of Sugar can it not use the Voice RD Sugar integration with a little bit of work (*cough* hacking *cough*). voiceRD is open source so grab the source and have a go...

vtiger blows away sugarcrm

I definitely agree. I believe VTiger is a much better solution that sugar. I migrated from sugar to vtiger about two years ago. Although I do pay for their paid support I have to admit that ther product and technical support service is phenomenal. I would love to see some type of integration between both trixbox and vtiger. I am sure this could even become a bounty project.

Has anyone thought about putting together a bounty to get the integration finished. I mean I know we all like free stuff but sometimes we have to pay to expedite the project.

Is anyone up for the job?
