Wicked New to All this with Wicked Dumb Questions
I guess I should start with what I have now and why I no longer want it....
I currently have 2 business lines from Verizon and a Comcast internet phone at home.
All three services are overpriced.
The 2 business lines are remote call forwarding that always forward to my cell... when I am not working I still need them to be answered (if someone calls a cab company and no one answers they never call again ever!) I then forward them out to a larger company. Verizon wants 35.00 just to change the number that the remote lines forwards to.
This is driving my cell bill through the roof and has actually caused me to stop advertising the phone numbers when Ideally I want them at 10,000 calls a month as soon as humanly possible.
Comcast forces you into a package deal with the cable and the internet and after the year is up they jack the rates. I am returning my cable boxes this week....thats a different story for another day though I guess.
I discussed all this with my Uber Geek friend and he told me I need to port mynumbers to a VOIP provider and setup my old computer to run trixbox.
I am still unsure at this point if this would be the idea; setup but from what little I have read it seems to be.
The following is what I had in mind for my setup.
1) be able to forward my 2 business lines to my cell phone and then be able to hit some buttons on my cell to transfer the number back out to someone else at will without incurring more charges from verizon wirless since I seem to be on the find a way to screw me plan.
2) When the calls are being forwarded to my cell be able to immediately tell which number the person dialed as well as see the phone number they are calling from
3) In addition to the three lines I have now I willw ant to add more lines later as I move into new geographic areas.
4) I want to do allt his for less then a 100.00 a month
My questions thus far are...
1) What do I do first set up a trixbox or order service broadvoice or some other voip?
2) Later when I wish to add more lines do I purchase the additional lines from voip or didx?
3) Will I be billed seperately for all the lines running into my trixbox or just for a set amount of data ?
I sincerely apologise to anyone on the forum about to lambaste me for asking dumb questions posting in the wrong forum etc ect... you were new and clueless once to so RELAX FRANCIS
I would prefer any and all advice/answers be sent to me via email at webcabbie@aol.com
Thanx
Mike
