looking for 'local' service provider- NH/MASS

Hello

I need to add a few voip lines and want to try to get a local service provider.

We are in north east Massachusetts.

DOes anyone know how to choose such a provider?

What are your requirements for this provider? SIP trunking only? Local business or just local presence?

we have a Trixbox CE with latest FreePbX modules..

we have some pots lines and voip trunks.

I am looking to add some voip trunks.

I want a company that has - I'm not sure of the right term - relatively local connections to the internet. Currently our service has NYC and San Franisco connections.

the whole idea of voip is removing physical boundaries - if someone told you vicinity was important, they were close to wrong - granted being 5000 miles away should be avoided.

But I am something like 600 miles away from Voicepulse SF and have 6-8 different clients that use them. I have had a couple of lag problems, and everytime it has been solved by screaming at the internet provider to up the quality of their circuit. Other than that I have Voicepulse working over satellite internet providers even (the client cant even watch youtube, but VOIP works;) and it works well.

Voicepulse has been around for a while and is one of the better providers, as an alternative you might try Vitelity, they have excellent rates (not quite as good as VP), and EVEN BETTER service, setup is even easier - my daughter could set it up and she cant even spell VOIP. I have also heard of people being happy with les.net.

Where your provider peers to the internet is largely irrelevant. But, you want a provider that peers on the east coast and west coast for redundancy. On the east coast, most of the peering happens in NYC, so that is actually the best place.
