Hi,
A few things to keep in mind here: WM5 has a PPC and Smartphone version. They are typically cross-compatible but also completely different because Smartphones do NOT have touch screens.
I use Skype and ESCSoftphone on my Motorola Q/Whorizon. I went with ESC vs. SJB because it is the only IAX2 (am I wrong here?) client I have found that works.
The quality is usually really good but it does not have the tolerance of a regular CDMA call here in the states. I was going to do some testing one day with turning off the other smartphone features since the phone can only get around 30Kb/s and the latency is almost 200ms to my trunk.

I successfully installed ESCSoftphoneSP_Demo.exe on my Motorola Q from Sprint with EV-DO.
I have an IAX2 extension on my Asterisk server.
I entered the following settings for "Server 1":
Server Alias: myserver
DNS/IP Addr: AsteriskServerIPAddress (I tried FQDN as well)
User Alias: me
Login Name: IAX2 extension UN
Password: IAX2 extension PW
+ Replacement String: blank
Strip Own country code: blank
Add own country code: blank
Register: yes
I click "Apply" and I see
Registering Server 1... No Server Registered
Under tools, I looked for Help->Content and I got nothing.
Can you please help me with this?
Thanks.
Hi jbrock :
I downloaded the file from the link you provided but it won't install on my Moto Q which has a Windows Mobile 5 OS.
It goes through the installation process through ActiveSync and then I get the message on my device: Installation was unsuccessful. The installation file is not intended for this device.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
I have used both X-lite and X-TAPI PPC on WM5 devices as well as SJPhone with good results, BUT I have switched to a Smartphone instead, mailny because of the form factor and how I normally use my device. read Server synced e-mail and primarilt make calls. Since WLAN is built in it would be nice to use VoIP as well. BUT there I am unable to find a softphone that actually installs on WM5 Smartphone, except for one from Cicero Networks, but that seem to be unobtainable for end users like me. :(. Anyone know of one that works on WM 5 Smartphone?

Hi driver28//Hasse
I am looking for the same solution you are but no luck yet...
Many of the applications probably run on PocketPC but not the Smartphone. Sigh...
I have Moto Q Smartphone from Sprint with EV-DO - that means *unlimited* data with mobile broadband.
It would be nice if I can find some VoIP client - SIP or IAX, or even a GoogleTalk-compatible client that would run on the *SMARTPHONE* version of the Windows Mobile 5 OS.
I have tried to install *ALL* of the softphone clients mentioned in this thread and some; but none installed on my Moto Q smartphone except the ESCSoftphone.
ESCSoftphone installed but I wasn't able to register with the Asterisk server. I already posted this issue in this thread above and hoping that some one can help me solve the issue.
I certainly do appreciate the help from the community and hoping to make this work soon!
Thanks.

I was finally able to register ESCSoftphone on my Sprint Moto Q but the voice quality was horrible even tough I had good bandwidth (600 down/ 260 up).
You mmention something about the "CDMA tolerance" - what does that mean?
Is there any "tuning" you can suggest to improve voice quality?
Thanks.
Why do I get the uneasy feeling that carriers will disable this feature if they do let us upgrade!
I have tried several IMs on Moto Q (WM5) but none of them have the voice calling capability even though their counter parts on the PC do. I wonder why.
I am looking for an IM client with voice calling.
Regards.
Have you tried IDEFISK ?
It was solid stuff the last time we did a review after
building system where working softphone was must.
Stuff uses IAX2 instead of SIP. For Sip I like Xlite,
for H323 I recommend MyPhone.

http://myphone.sourceforge.net/
these applications worked on a 500 mhz PC, with 512 megs ram, and 1 megabit
high speed wireless. I did not see MyPhone for unix, but do run Xlite on Ubuntu
with no problems.

I downloaded the PPCIAX.rar, upzip it and I got a PPCIAX.exe file. When I ran PPCIAX, I got error message:
"Can't find 'PPCIAX' (or one of its compponents). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available."
What am I missing?
Thanks,
Alen
I am using a HP 6955 WM5 ppc phone and the screen is 240 x 240. All of the softphones I have used only support 320 x 240 and do not scroll so I do not see and cannot access half of the keypad and any options that would normally be at the bottom of the screen.
Does anyone have a softphone for ppc 240 x 240 screen?
