losing sip registration

we are using voice pulse. our trixbox registers to their sip gateway sfo correctly. the registration is set to expire every 2 minutes. however it appears that our trixbox is registering only every 3 minutes. this causes a busy signal to incoming calls during the window between registration expiration and new registration. there must be a sip trunk paramenter to change this. is it externrefresh?
