Newbie question: how do I update packages for trixbox Pro SE? (shell directory and commands?)

Very new to trixbox and fairly new to Linux...How can I update all packages for trixbox Pro SE (1.1.3 ISO)? (Apparently, this ISO includes CentOS 4.4.)

Do I go to the shell (/bin/sh-3.00#) and enter "yum -y update" or "trixbox-update.sh"? First, it would help to know what folder I should be in (although I think the commands run from any folder???). Sorry, a basic primer would really help me. I'd like to update all trixbox packages that came with the ISO. When I tried yum install updates, I got an error message:

There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: No module named yum

The reason I'm trying to update is that after installation and rebooting, the startup screen hangs at Grub (Grub repeats across the page infinitely) and can't progress past this loader for some reason. I had previously installed this ISO and re-installed it, only to get the Grub problem. I suspect that updating the packages will resolve the Grub problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you.

J

whats your hardware

Jrath,

What type of hardware are you installing on? It sounds like this might be a linux driver problem. Can you post some details of your hardware including the type of install you selected 'sata', 'raid', 'ide', or manual.

If you have any cards in

If you have any cards in your system then running yum update all will almost certainly break them. If this happens you will need to login to the console with ip/ip or go to the cards page in the CP and run a new card detection. I did that myself last night to test it and thought I had borked up my system but good until I tried that.

As an aside, Running 'yum

As an aside,

Running 'yum update all' on a tbPro system is generally a bad idea unless you really know what you are doing.

Your grub issue sounds more like an installation issue, or a disk / driver issue. Are you using certified hardware? Have you run the mediacheck on your CD?

Disabled anything to do with SATA/RAID

Thanks for trying, guys.

Apparently, CentOS 4,4/trixbox Pro 1.1.3 didn't have the Intel ICH9R chipset drivers, so you have to disable SATA and RAID in the BIOS and change everything to IDE--AHCI doesn't work, either. Also, you can only install trixbox Pro on this Gigabyte motherboard using IDE-RAID. All other options failed. trixbox Pro is very limited in drivers--of course, that simplifies the hardware they have to test and support. Was able to install (finally!).

In the end, since I also wanted to install SugarCRM, I ditched trixbox Pro for trixbox CE 2.6.0.7. Strange problems with trixbox unable to ping the Linksys router (with firmware current version 3.1.17), though, even using the same netconfig and router settings. Hmmm....

Any ideas on this trixbox CE problem? What settings do you guys use in netconfig and the router for trixbox CE?

Cheers,
Jason
