Phones not registered?

Hello, everyone. At work, we've recently begun installing a new trixbox Pro Appliance. The box is on our network...has a static IP in the subnet...can ping out...and I can access it via cp.trixbox.com. We don't have the phone system working yet...but we haven't ported the numbers to the T1 or anything yet...so I'm not worried.

I did, however, begin setting up the phones themselves. They are Aastra 480i IP phones. When I plug a phone into the network (through a POE-injecting switch), the phone doesn't receive any configuration. [as expected] So, I configure the TFTP address to that of the trixbox Appliance. I re-start the phone...after a reboot or two, the phone displays an extension number (e.g. 7001) and says "No Service". [...which I'm guessing is due to the aforementioned lack of phone service through the T1] Two of the softkeys have also been setup...[Voicemail and DND]

When I log into cp.trixbox.com...the phone is listed under "phones"...the extension on my phone is listed under "view extensions" and seems to be associated to the proper phone...but the Status light is red. When I hover over the Status light...it says "Phone Status: not registered!". If I try to dial '0' on the phone to test it...it pauses...then gives me a fast busy signal, and the display says 'Call Failed'.

Now, I do have one of the 'bad' routers...[Netgear FVX538]...but I thought I could at least get the intra-office phone system up and running...then worry about the router when we're ready with the actual phone line. Is it the router that's causing my 'Call Failed'? Did I miss a step in configuration? Let me know if you need to know anything else about my setup or what I've done so far. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sincerely,
Christopher David YUDICHAK

Astra TFTP frimware and Endpoint Manager

Did you install the Astra frimware and install it and did you configure that extension in the endpoint manager for the TFTP boot to work?

router

Yea that is one of those Prosafe things it has something about sip alg or some thing disable that and I think you have to allow the sip traffic in something called "inbound services" or something for SIP/UDP ports 5060 and RTP/UDP ports 10000-200000 (or whatever)

I think, It does something to the sip headers when it has control over the sip packets, bad for asterisk.

I did not install

I did not install anything...I've been working from the trixbox as it came. The phone itself seems to receive a firmware update when TFTP is configured...but I have not installed anything on the trixbox...nor have I installed anything personally on the phone.

I've read of the "Endpoint Manager"...but I'm not sure to what that refers. Pardon my ignorance...is this additional software...or a setting on the box itself? Thanks for your reply...I hope you don't mind my lack of knowledge on the subject.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Aastra Firmware and Endpoint Manager

First go to the package manager and select the Aastra Firmware for install. Then when installed login to the trixbox using the root account (if pbx isn't local then use ssh) and type "setup-aastra". This will run the Aastra setup for TFTP which will enable the Endpoint Manager to work.

Now mouse over Asterisk in the menu and you will see a drop down; in the list is Endpoint Manager. Select "Aastra Phones", select "Add Phone"; this is where you setup your Aastra phones to work with each extension. The "Device ID" is the extension the phone belongs to, "Phone Type" is the Aastra Model, "MAC Address" is the MAC (Physical) Address of the phone, and the "Soft Key" is for custom settings. For testing purposes leave the Soft Keys blank and hit submit.

Reset your Aastra phone and it will download from the TFTP server the Aastra Firmware you downloaded and installed along with the settings for the extension.

Package Manager

Pardon, once again, my ignorance...but I can't seem to find the Package Manager. I'm running trixbox Pro v2.06. I've tried logging in as root via SSH...but setup-aastra doesn't seem to be there...setup-app and setup-sangoma are, however [in /usr/local/sbin]. I've tried 'yum list aastra*'...but nothing shows up. Where should I find this Package Manager...or how do I get this to work via SSH? Thanks again.

Package Manager

The Package Manager is in the web maint screen under "Packages". This is where you can go to update trixbox with a GUI. You can't run setup-aastra until you install the Aastra firmware.

In the trixbox command prompt type help-trixbox and it will give you a list of commands.

I can't get to the maint

I can't get to the maint screen. If I browse to my trixbox's IP...it re-directs to the cp.trixbox.com. If I try my trixbox's IP/maint...it says 'The requested URL /maint was not found on this server.'

Does Pro have a maint screen

Does Pro have a maint screen or a endpoint manager?

I don't think so...

No, I don't believe it does...which is why I'm curious as to how to get the phones setup. It seems as though it should be plug-and-play...but alas...it is not. ...at least not for me. Thanks in advance.

Pro

Sorry, I don't use pro and assumed it was the same. I'm only familiar with CE and those are the steps.

Sounds like the phone isn't

Sounds like the phone isn't resolving the server DNS name - try changing the phones primary DNS server to the IP of the trixbox Pro server as it runs a DNS server and has a record for its own address.

I have

That's the thing...I have done that. When I set the DNS and TFTP addresses to that of the trixbox, I boot up the phone...it receives new firmware, reboots again, receives configuration, displays an extension, the voicemail and DND softkeys have been configured...and on the trixbox, the phone is in the phones list, and the extension is in view extensions...but the status of the phone is 'not registered'...even though it seems to have registered the phone itself.

Resolved

Hello, all.

I just wanted to update you on the matter here. It was, in fact, the Bad News Router that was causing the problem, as I expected...but feared...hehe

After taking the router out of the equation, the phones were plug-and-play...thank you Aastra and trixbox...and thank you forumers for your help. Unfortunately, we need to get a new router for external calls...but what can you do? hehe Thanks again.

Sincerely,
Christopher David YUDICHAK
