Polycom Firmware Issue

So, what do you do if you've tested other products such as trixbox CE, AsteriskNow and you decided on trixbox Pro; you've upgraded you Polycom IP550 to BOOTROM 4.0.0 and SIP 3.0.0? I tried formatting the flash.

Also, any help on the changes I need to make to display my logo on the Polycom display is helpful.

Update: I had three IP550s, two had been upgraded to the latest BOOTROM and SIP software, the third was new in the box. I setup trixbox Pro for the third phone, assing an ext to it and pugged it in. It found the tftp server and updated the BOOTROM and SIP software to that on the trixbox Pro sever and then rebooted, after reboot, I get config error 0x0.

So, what can I do? Latest firmware doesn't work, not does a brand new phone out of the box...

This is too difficult. I could have already purchased an installed an Avaya system. If I can figure this out, how am I supposed to reseller these to my clients?

Question, how long would you have to train to have equivalent proficiency on the Avaya system?

Completing training and having at least one FtOCC trained tech on staff is the basics before offering this product to the public unless you want to dissapoint customers and give the product a bad name. I know Avaya requires quite a bit more training before certifying resellers.

I do not know pro, just CE or I would help you with the 550's. The 0x0 error is on the display of the phone?

I only say that because I am Avaya trained... I'm just frustrated.

Yes, the 0x0 is on the display, after the initial boot, then it reboots.

Yeah, there is a steep learning curve. The telephony stuff translates straight forward, setting up PRI cards and such. The networking and Linux stuff can take a little while.

Good luck.

msnyder, The Polycom 550

msnyder,

The Polycom 550 _should_ work 'out of the box'. Answer the following questions to help me, help you resolve this problem:

1. What is your Server ID?
2. Do you have 'extensions' assigned to your system and associated with the MAC addresses of your phone? (you can check this in the Extensions page)
3. Are there files in the /tftpboot directory of your system?
4. Is there a file in /tftpboot that has the MAC address of the phone in question?

I look forward to your reply.

Thanks!
Mike

1. What is your Server ID?
I assume you mean my trixbox assigned ID; 123131

2. Do you have 'extensions' assigned to your system and associated with the MAC addresses of your phone? (you can check this in the Extensions page)
Yes

3. Are there files in the /tftpboot directory of your system?
Yes

4. Is there a file in /tftpboot that has the MAC address of the phone in question?
Yes, there are several file with the mac in the filename, but since I reinstalled trixbox Pro they are not. I will remove the phon assignment from the ext and delete the phone and re-enter them. That should generate the files.

When I try to add the phones

When I try to add the phones back after removing them I get the following error:

Please correct the following 1 error and try again:
Error when adding polycom Phone 0004F219351B (polycom Phone): F::Devices::add_device: You must pass a unique device name/server-id

EDIT: This seems to be because I have that phone in the system as "Autodetect"?

Hey Msnyder, Great

Hey Msnyder,

Great troubleshooting. Once the configuration files are in /tftpboot/ by changing something slightly in the Extension configuration you shouldn't get the 'config error' issue on phone boot.

Thanks,
Mike

Yeah, I should mention I'm not just a telcom guy, I'm a Systems Administrator in a call center environment. Just getting into *nix though. This system is for my business, I'm trying to get away from "the man" and open my own business. I want to use what I sell or recommend anyway...

Wow Fonality's engineers must be very small. There seems to be more practical ways to do this?

I would tape up all the vents on the server if you don't want them climbing inside.

You think a sheet of inkjet paper and scotch tape will work?

The paper will work but I would put a secondary defense of tin foil on the windows.

Files are there now...

Still doesn't work. How is it that it could see the BOOTROM and SIP software, upgrade, and now not see the config files?

Your using Pro so I am not even sure if it is a good idea to edit those files.

You installed XML Notepad a free MS app on your windows computer?

I use WINSCP to access the Linux volumes from my PC.

Very strange works like a champ for me. If you don;t feel like futzing with open with or setting your win associations you can just drop the polycom config files on XML notepad and they will open right up.

msnyder, What is your

msnyder,

What is your current symptom? Is it the same as before? Was your phone able to download the configuration file once it was on the system? You can check the attempts for the Polycom to download the configuration in either /var/log/xferlog or /var/log/tftpd.log depending on what you have configured on your phone (FTP or TFTP respectively).

Cheers!
Mike
