DTMF issue with 7960 over an IAX trunk

So I think I have come across a Cisco 7960 bug. I am using the latest firmwares both 8-8-00 as well as 8-9-00 and I am using several versions of Trixbox but primarily the latest two releases up till 2.6.1

The issue....

When I have a cisco 7960 registered on a Trixbox server which terminates its calls via an IAX trunk through another Trixbox which in turn terminates the call through a SIP provider DTMF does not seem to work.

Basically I have two Trixboxs, one which connects and does all the routing to all the termination providers. Then I have remote Trixbox installations which have IAX connections back to the primary. The issue is DTMF does not seem to pass through for some reason. Its odd because rarely it works, such as pressing a button immediately upon connection and often even that doesnt work.

I tested with Polycom, Linksys and Grandstream and they have no issues with DTMF via this remote Trixbox.

Even more important to know, is that the Cisco 7960 is programmed with an extension on the primary trixbox has no problems with DTMF, only when I have a Cisco 7960 AND only when its on a remote trixbox via an IAX trunk.

Creating a SIP extension on the primary server and making a SIP trunk on the remote trixbox also works with the 7960.

I have been able to narrow it down before posting, if anyone has any ideas or has seen this issue and know how to solve it please let me know

Thanks in advance

What DTMF mode is the 7960

What DTMF mode is the 7960 in?

If you remind me to check on Monday when I am in my office I can look at one of ours.

However you can try toggling between inband and rfc2833

I know for sure I am using uLaw for codec on both ends and inband on my trunk end.

I dont know where can you

I dont know where can you tell what the dtmf mode is set to?

We configure using config files usually

Also just to confirm, your saying that u have a setup like mine, you have an iax trunk and a cisco connected to a remote trixbox and makes calls through that IAX trunk and its set to inband?

thanks

These settings should help

These settings should help you.

The settings are mutually exclusive -

dtmf_inband: "1"
dtmf_outofband: "0"

Make sure you set this also

dtmf_avt_payload: "101"

btw I went to SIP

btw I went to SIP configuration on the 7960 menu buttons, all I found was outofband DTMF setting, nothing for inband and it was set to avt, is this correct?
Without creating a new config, would this be fixable just by changing this from avt to none? or to avt_always?

Thanks

I don't recommend ever

I don't recommend ever configuring from the phones menu.

I highly suggest you clear the phones config out and let the endpoint manager generate the config files for you. You may find your problems go away.
