Aastra 57i CT base station doesn't ring!
How can I make the base station audibly ring when someone is on another line? Say a customer calls in, and while speaking to the attendant, another call comes in. I want the base station to ring out loud instead of flash a line button and display on the screen a new call is coming in. The same thing happens with the wireless handset. If someone calls in and gets transferred to the handset (put on hold at the base, then pick up the same line on the wireless) and another call comes in, the base station does not ring. There must be a way to change this.
you mean a person is in a call on the cordless, and you want another person to be able to hear a 2nd call come in on the base station - you cannot do this.
I think it is this way by intentional design, if you were able to do what you wanted, it would be like having 2 unique telephones, but what people dont realize is they are the SAME extension which basically makes them the SAME phone.
In most business or even home scenarios, users of a line would not want some other user to be able to answer that same line; although some like yourself would. Have you ever bought a home telephone that had both a wired base phone, and cordless that would allow you to take 2 seperate calls on each unit? - no - if so, this would mean they were 2 seperate telephones using 2 seperate lines.
If you want 2 have a lot of cordless telephones, and just one base unit, you might look into the complete cordless DECT system with DECT access points that Aastra has. Otherwise, aastra would probably just rather you bought another wired handset if you wanted another user to handle another call while the wireless was in use;)
This happens on either the base or the wireless. If the attendant is on a call on the base station, and another call comes in, the base does not ring. It only shows a call coming in on the second line on the LCD display and the line button flashes. This is a four line phone with the ability to have five extra lines as softkeys. I'm pretty sure the 57i CT is specifically geared towards call attendants, otherwise they would not make the expansion modules for it. honestly, I can live with the phone not audibly ringing when someone is on the wireless. But when someone is on the base, and the base doesn't ring when a call comes in? That doesn't seem like a four line phone ought to work. Why pay more for extra lines then? Why don't I just order a 9112i and be done with it?
I looked into that. When someone is on the wireless, they hear the beep. When the base station is tied up, I don't think they hear anything. Maybe in the handset, but I'd have to ask. What I'd like to happen is the base station ring on an incoming call regardless of whether the wireless is in use or the base with handset is in use. Traditional PBXs and phone systems do this, can't Asterisk? One thought I had was set each of the four lines to a different extension. Then when one is busy, just disable call waiting and use call forwarding instead to ring the second line/extension. I'm still not sure the phone would ring when in use or just give a visual cue to the fact another call is coming in. I may have to experiment.
i havnt seen a system that makes a ring while you are on a call other than the call waiting beep in your ear piece. if you arent hearing the beep in your ear piece, we can possibly find out why, otherwise, it dont ring out loud - this would probably get annoying, people would complain about that sounding like a boiler room.
let us know where the ring isnt being heard.
try assigning the different lines on the phones different extensions, and then make a ringall ringroup for all of the extensions. e.g. line 1 ext 101, line 2 ext 102, etc... then ringroup ext 101, 102. 103, 104 as ringroup 501 or something similar. Then add the ringroup to your incoming routing.
they'll all ring at once when someone dials the ring group number either internally or through call routing. if line one is busy, line two and three and four light up and ring, etc.... as far as the user is concerned, his extension is the ring group number.
I'm not sure how to solve your inital problem however to fix the about, change the ring group setting to "hunt" instead of ring all
