Aastralink 160
Backup of the ALP-160 can be done via the administrator web user interface, and stored locally on the PC or archived/emailed etc. and is encrypted for privacy. The backup file can later be restored using the webui, or in cases where a new CompactFlash card is used, via the inbuilt recovery mode firmware.
Please note that ALP-160 does not currently use Trixbox as its default distribution; the 'AstraLink Pro' product designation refers to the included Aastra-development provisioning daemon and embedded web user interface, the "Model 160" refers to the small form-factor embedded hardware platform.
The Model 160 platform is based on a Linux and Asterisk open platform, and is intended to be easily customizable for VAR's to add alternative implementations if the AastraLink Pro software does not meet the needs of their customers, for example if you wanted to customise it by porting Trixbox to replace the "AastraLink Pro" provisioning daemon/web interface.
The 'about' page of the Administrator web interface has license info and details for obtaining the open source platform distribution on CD, including the cross-compilers etc.
More details for the features and documentation will be added to Aastra's website in due course - the product is not officially released until 15th May (resellers got early access).
I can say that although software release 1.1 is initially targetted for plug&play ease of user installation, the addition of SLA Key-system functionality is one of several Beta-customer requested features currently in development for the next releases of the AastraLink Pro software.
I'd love to hear some more feedback from others that already have this unit. How is the web interface... ease of use, features compared to Trixbox / FreePBX. Have any of you installed the latest version of Trixbox (2.6) on this unit ? (I know it has it's own custom software from Aastra)
If so were there any problems with the 6 FXO ports and 2 FXS ports... I'm really curious... I've got my first real install coming up and this unit has perked my curiousity
I'm currently considering this unit (found one for $899) Versus Pricing a Dell PE SC440 on special for $399 and a Rhino R8FXX with 6 FXO and 2 FXS $689 = ~ $1100
I just wish the 480i's worked instead of having to get the new revision 9480i (I have a lot of the older units - which work great).... If they did it would be a no brainer.
it looks like nothing more than hardware with Trixbox Pro rebranded
Em, no, the AastraLink Pro 160 has no relation to Trixbox Pro.
But to answer your question, the GUI is hosted on the box itself and as stated earlier designed for ease of deployment and administration.
agit8or, you may be thinking of the "Aastra Link PBX" software?
(Those are Trixbox-based packages available from Aastra Online in Europe as Standard, Enterprise and Call-center editions, and are designed to run on traditional PC server hardware - not the AastraLink Pro model 160)
"AastraLink Pro 160" uses an entirely new web-based GUI that was developed by Aastra Telecom in North America, and is optimized to run directly on the embedded "model 160" hardware itself.
