Using g.729 over WAN, can't connect more than one call?

Hey, is this a known issue? I've got a 480i CT across a WAN link, if I use g.729 as the codec it works fine for one call, but if any more calls go to that device it rings, briefly, then calls go to voicemail, indicating they can't find a codec to use.

I've set the extensions to allow both g.729 and ulaw, but it happens no matter what. Using only ulaw works as you'd expect, but it's sucking up bandwidth.

Any hints?

The 480iCT can only support

The 480iCT can only support one active G729 call at a time, so when a second call comes in it will be rejected. It just doesn't quite have the horsepower to support a G729 speaker-phone call on the base and a G729 call to the cordless handset at the same time.

Thanks for the answer. Is

Thanks for the answer.

Is there any way to get it to do g.729 on one call and ulaw on the other? I'm not even talking about an active conversation, just putting one caller on hold and picking up the other. I know you probably can't conference on two different codecs, but that wouldn't be the issue.

And is the 57i capable of doing more than one g.729 call at a time?

What you need to do is

What you need to do is set-up the codec order on asterisk so that it offers G729 first and then ulaw. That way the phone will use G729 if it can (ie for the first call) and then fall back to ulaw (ie subsequent calls).

Conferencing between different codecs is supported.

And yes the 57i can support multiple G729 calls.
