Deviceanduser with HUDLite USELESS... :(

Hi!

I'm running my TB in deviceanduser mode, wich is great. what is not so great is that HUDLite only shows the devices and not the users. FreePBX 2.4.x does have the advantage of allowing users and devices to have the same ID and as long as the user is fixed or logged on to a device having the smae device ID it works apart from the displayname being that of the device. BUT if a user is logged on to a device with a non-matching ID everything stop working, since you can't call a device. :(

Any solution to this in the upcoming HUD 3.0 maybe?

Probably not as it is an

Probably not as it is an issue with how Asterisk sees the extensions while it is running.

Is there a call manager

Is there a call manager compatible with deviceanduser mode then?
there is a whole lot that can be solved using this mode. Pro works in the same way "over the hood" anyway, right? You add users and devices and connect them. HUDLite works then, so would it be impossible to make it work with CE too?

trixbox Pro delivers the

trixbox Pro delivers the screens in a device and user model but under the hood its a simple extensions model. With the Follow-me in CE have have not needed to use users and devices mode for any install. Not that there are specific cases where I still would, but using follow-me has solved virtually all issues I used to use users and devices mode in the past.

No one knows anything

No one knows anything more?

How many are using deviceanduser mode? Even if there are fewer than not someone must have the need for a call manager that support this, right? If not, how do you work with calls? What do the receptionist use to route calls?

I doubt you will find

I doubt you will find anything as that mode is very non-standard.

Seems a bit odd since

Seems a bit odd since hotdesking is a selling point for TB CE and Pro alike. What do you recommend the receptionist to use in a deviceanduser scenario to get an overview of who's doing what?

According to FreePBX.org FreePBX always treat an extension as deviceanduser mode only that it's hidden in the GUI in extension mode.

It so does not make any sense to call a device when you want to get a person in HUDLite. Have to revert to an external directory for the users to look up internal numbers then, and call at random not knowing if the callee is available or not... :(

I recommend you not use

I recommend you not use device and user mode and instead use Follow-Me. When they sit at a desk you configure their follow-me to go to the extension they are sitting at. Then transfering a call to their extension will send it to the correct device. As I said, we will look into addressing this in HUDLite3 at the end of summer but there will be no fix for the current HUDLite version.

My experience

The only install I have ever seen device and user mode in action was when I worked at Motorola.

It was slick I could take a guest cube in London and login to my extension.

I used the Cisco SCCP softphone when I was traveling across the VPN. I had a hard phone at home that I used on the VPN.

Find me is a good work around. I had not thought about this before I read the thread. For remote workers this would be useful.

Not sure where the "FreePBX' hides it came from. If you program extensions in raw Asterisk it does not work this way.

If anybody knows how to enable the feature I would like to play with it. You would need login script in the phone.

That really won't work for people who 'hotdesk'. That will create a loop when two users basically trade places and they both setup follow-me.

No it wouldn't. The primary

No it wouldn't. The primary extension is a bogus extension without a device connected. Then you have no risk of conflicts.
