Hudlite connects. Unable to dial
I have an updated trixbox CE server with Hudlite Server running. Admin package is installed and configured. Latest Hudlite client is installed and configured. The client connects to the server just fine. But I am unable to dial an extension or number. Calls out from the client don't do anything. Calls to the hudlite client extension get a fast busy signal. When I right click an ext in the Hudlite client window, the only opttion available is Call Voicemail. And that doesn't work. Any ideas? I;m about to uninstall and reinstall the Server and Admin packages. Thanks!
Hi,
Same issue here I think an error in the Connect.xml .. I suspect this is a configuration as I see Local Host connect issues in the Asterisk/full.log that seem to correspond here and match the locahost name function.
Did you find an answer ??
In the Directory /usr/local/fonality/hud/logs
File name server.log shows connection issues..

Kerry,
Also see this posting -- Same New box just came online for production today --

Hope you can shed some light. But one thing I noticed is most connections are to the eth0 address of 10.2.1.7 including the Asterisk Information message.
Asterisk Info: trixbox1.localdomain (10.2.1.7)
Should Hud have the 10.2.1.7 or a name from etc/hosts to correspond to 10.2.1.7 instead of localhost in the connect.xml
I am still learning some of this stuff, but based on something pointed to me in another thread I noticed that the context [AstTapi] did not have a valid permit= within it.
Changed mine to permit=127.0.0.1 same as other sections.
Will update after I get I chance to test latter today..
I've been with trixbox for a year now.. and I have NEVER EVER in any release of trixbox seen a functioning hudlite-server..
hudlite-server simply doesn't work.. I see posts where people say that everything is ok.. but I have used trixbox "as is" out-of-the-box-and-no-modfication without success.. I use linux and I am an network admin.. I have spent hours with the troubles hudlite had.
trixbox reached now version 2.5.0.. wow.. congrats.. and why is hudlite still not working? and why does mostly everyone have the same issue, that hudlite-server is running but you can't place any calls?? why are the solutions "editing this and that" not implemented if they work??
and even if hudlite is "free", if you can't provide real info and solutions for your product, then take it off the market.. "free" does not mean that you can throw it out there where people try to use it because it does have a cool thing to it.. but when they have trouble you leave them alone? how much you care about your own product dear fonality guys can be seen on the www.hudlite.org site... updated news from jan 2007??? are you serious? I believe that a growing comunity has right in thinking that you try to get the most out of it with the least effort, and that the issues wich are solved by the community are implemented in the pay-versions of this product.. and the "free" stuff suffers..
I'm sorry for pissing off a couple of persons, but after a year of waiting for a functioning hudlite-server/trixbox combination I'm just too frustrated.. sorry..
if anyone would like to show me a functioning hudlite-server/trixbox installation, please.. I'm here on my knees begging to see it working...
thank you..
regards
danny
I've got 53 users at our site using HUDlite without any major problems. We can dial directly from HUD and call pops work well enough. We cannot get HUDlite working for our remote users and it does not currently support IAX connections. But those are well known limitations at this point.
The TAPI implimentation doesn't seem to work all that well. Probably not a HUDlite issue as much as an asterisk manager issue though.
devhellaux,
Maybe you could try having somebody "less experienced" try the install and configuration ? HUDlite and trixbox seem to be more focused towards the average user and perhaps your making assumptions based on your experience. Sometimes the average user needs to be lead down a different path than an experieced system administrator would take.
Try to keep in mind HUDlite was developed for a very different environment and "ported" to trixbox CE. Reading through the posts here and on the dev blog make it clear they are working on a completely seperate path for the next version of HUDlite.
There are also several other commercially available tools that work with trixbox CE. Sometimes you have to spend a few bucks if the free tools don't meet your needs.
... but I guess I did not make myself clear, I'm sorry..
what I was trying to explain, is the fact that I've tried standard-super-stupid-installs.. means, put in the cd, boot computer, install trixbox with any defaults available, configured trixbox to operate with 2 trunks and 3 sipphones.. sipphones work fine.. then install hudliteserver and hudadmin as told in the installationprocedures.. installed hudliteclient on workstations.. and hud won't operate as it should..
how much simpler can you do an install? It has nothing to do with my level of experience.. I install trixbox and hudlite as straightforward as possible.. and what do you get? a non-working system.. great.. I've done this with several versions of trixbox and hudlite.. and it never worked.. I don't mind spending a few bucks for other products, it makes me sad to see a piece of software with potential not working for several versions.. if it doesn't work.. why "port" it to trixbox CE in the first place?!?!?
when's that "next version" coming? will that version function?
no offence RayGannon, but your arguments did not convince me. and as always I still don't have any productive answers to what is going on..
regards
HUD automatically dials a 9+ the number that you put in the call box. Just add a 9NXXXXXX, 9NXXNXXXXXX, and 91NXXNXXXXXX to your default outbound route, and add 9|NXXXXXX, 9|NXXNXXXXXX, and 9|1NXXNXXXXXX to your trunk(s). Now, hudlite will successfully call the outside world.

I guess one item I'm not picking up from your previous posts is what portion of HUDlite is not working for you. Are the services running ? Have you tried stopping and restarting the services ? Are you not able to get a client to connect ? Are you able to connect clients but not able to get dialing or call pops to work ?
I have client 1.1.1170 and I just go to settings, then dialing and uncheck the prepend 9 if number length is greater than 6. Then I didn't have to edit my trunk and outbound (which, didn't work, by the way).
Found this setting after trying your fix and undoing it, now I can make an outbound call from Hudlite like a charm. I am digging Hudlite and considering rolling it out wide.
Unchecking "dial 9" or adding it to my trunks is useless. I have a new install of Trix CE and the latest hud server/client. I've installed 2 clients neither able to call out or call eachothers extensions. It's just X'd out. Kind of tired of playing with it but I will let everyone know if I find a REAL solution. Also, the documentation is weak and this does not convince me to buy any upgraded version...b.o.l
I think there could be some issues with hudlite and 2.4.x CE --
I had a fully functional hudlite in 2.2.x CE and upon reloading hudlite in 2.4.x, am able to drag to dial (after the dial nine is unchecked of course) see all active lines come and go in their respectively proper colour schemes (although lines dont stay lit for the entire call normally, although settings are pointed to that option).
When receiving a call on one computer/phone combo however, using the option to drop the call to voicemail - disconnects the caller - on another computer/extension, it does not. In such case that one line is already engaged and a second line tries to call in and you try to send to voicemail, it disconnects both lines - whereas again on a different extension - it doesnt.
As i have done several uninstalls / reinstalls on one comptuer ( the one i have issues with ) as opposed to the new computer which just works (both using windows vista biz. btw) could it be possible that something from an old hudlite build gets stuck in the registry somewhere and messes things up?
I am most inclined to believe that hudlite is mostly fine and the client side is where the problem exists.
Hope this helps with a direction to peek around this issue. I can imagine that if hudlite were FULLY functional, that it would be very sweet indeed. Great idea for sure!
FYI - just to be sure; i un-installed HUDlite from Vista, rebooted computer then re-installed.
Still no change...
Check this file : /etc/asterisk/manager_custom.conf
add :
[remote_mgr]
secret=0chanc3yo
deny=0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
permit=127.0.0.1/255.255.255.0
read=system,call,log,verbose,command,agent,user
write=system,call,log,verbose,command,agent,user
Save and reboot !
For me taht's OK now !!!
Thanks, citrix34!
That seems to have solved my issue with HUDLite and a fresh trixbox 2.6.0.5 installation.
I believe this is the same issue that devhellaux was experiencing in the previous posts above.
My question is: Where is this even documented? I've looked for the past day, off and on, and finally came across this post. It's certainly nowhere to be found on the hudlite.org website nor in the HUDlite setup guide found elsewhere on trixbox.org. I'm curious as to where you found it (possibly a running system?)...
On my system, the /etc/asterisk/manager_custom.conf and /etc/asterisk/manager_additional.conf files were both empty after installation of the hudlite-server package and hudadmin module from yum.
Thanks, again, for the information!

Citrix34 and everyone else:
I just installed HUDlite on my Vista Business 64-bit machine and it wasn't working at all. I just added the manager_custom.conf file with the settings that citrix34 gave us, then executed the "restart now" command and now HUDlite works perfectly. Even the TAPI functions work!
Kerry, can you please update the HUDServer install so it makes these simple changes to the manager_custom.conf file. It seems to solve everyone's problems.

I also am having problems with hud. I tried to implement the fix you have here and I still am unable to get the option of dialling the extension. If I start up xlite, I have no problem with it working. Can anyone suggest another fix? Oh and I have also unchecked 'prepend 9'
