Polycom IP 4000
Hello Everyone,
I am interested in getting a conference phone for the office. I use and like the Polycom product line and am looking at the IP 4000. I have a couple of questions about this and would appreciate any comments on the product.
POE: From what I see, this product does not support POE (or any of their other conference phone from what I can tell). Does anyone know if Polycom is going to release a POE conference phone in the next year or so? Should I wait?
HD Voice: I am running Polycom 550's in the office and really like them. Any chance that Polycom will be releasing a model along the IP 4000 line with HD Voice? I looked at the SoundStation VTX 1000 but it is overkill for my small office.

Actually the IP4000 requires the following accessory for PoE. It doesn't have the auto-sensing mechanism on the native port.
Power over Ethernet Interface Module, IEEE 802.3af, SoundStation IP 4000, Country Group: 66 LIST PRICE $79
Part # 2200-06630-001
Coincidentally, Cisco is already selling our OEM next generation conference phone, the IP7000 (long story here...) branded as the Cisco 7937G (10/100 MB, not GigE). We'll start selling these soon and it does support G.722. Unfortunately, the price point is about even with the VTX 1000. Look out for the announcement in case pricing info changes.

I'll add the point that the IP4000 comes with a small inline adaptor for POE. So it only has one wire to the desktop, but it does not support IEEE 802.3af out of the box.
Also, trixbox does not yet support HD Voice. So if you are using it with a TB I would not let the lack of HD Voice stop you.
