Polycom IP501's. No power supply. How to make a custom/homemade one?

I bought a couple of IP 501's from the internet for $10.00 each.
No power supply.
I would like to make a custom one to test the phones before buying power cables and adapters at 3 times the cost of the phones.
Does anyone have a pinout for the rj45 that shows what volt goes where?
I know they are 12 volt dc systems, but that is all I can find via Google search.
I opened one up, but, no easy "mark" as to what goes where... so... put it all back together. :)

Forget that, just get a PoE switch

Hi!

$10 each! sweet deal!

Easy solution is to just get a PoE switch!

for the money you saved, it's still a great deal :)

hmmmm...

The docs I have for the IP 501 phones we got is
that I can use a Cisco In-line Power Switch or
an IEEE 802.3af In-line power switch OR
in-line power cables.

is IEEE802.3af not Standard PoE?

The 501 phones don't support

The 501 phones don't support POE unless you purchase one of the optional cables.

Either the 802.3af or cisco cable.

The 501s come with a power injector cable which allows you to use the included 24 volt power adapter.

Unless you are technically savvy and choose to make your own cable you are going to have to buy one.

If you can get a 24 Volt adapter you can make an injector. There are 8 wires in an RJ45 connector. Looking at the pins cable facing towards you. Pins 1236 are used for data. Pins 4578 would be used for power.

The 501s use a proprietary

The 501s use a proprietary pairing delivering power. I don't know this assignment, but its different from both IEEE (power over the non-working ethernet pairs) and Cisco (power over the working ethernet pairs). Engineering hasn't disclosed that information internally. Sorry!

Just for the sake of archives - all my polycom 501s are 12v 400ma.....

I had the power injector cables and bought AC adapters at Radio shack.....

Sorry I cant help the OP - I just didnt want some poor guy smoking his 501 with 24v.....
