sip.cfg overwrite with 3.0?
I have a heavily modified sip.cfg file with the 2.2.0 firmware (or whichever version the latest 2.x is). Does installing the new 3.0 firmware require a new sip.cfg? In other words, will I need to manually reconfigure the new 3.0 sip.cfg or does it use the same one?
What Polycom recommends is that you pull out the settings you modify in the sip.cfg so that you can drop that file in to any load of software (assuming that any parameter in that file has not been removed) and the phone will use the changed settings and then pick up the default settings from the default files.
For example your MAC.cfg would have the following;
CONFIG_FILES="x4001registration.cfg, phone1.cfg, XYZcompany_sip_mods.cfg, sip.cfg"
the x4001registration.cfg just being the parameters needed for registration
XYZcompany_sip_mods.cfg having just the modified sip.cfg parameters for the XYZ Company.
This makes upgrades much easier since you just replace the phone1.cfg, sip.cfg and sip.ld. All of course after reading the release notes...
