I am no longer getting the Kernel Panic on 2.4.0. I installed the Rhino Telephony interface support in the package handler and then ran genzaptelconf. The trunks do not show up. Sorry for my lack of knowledge as it's been awhile since I worked with trixbox. This system has been rock solid until this past weekend.
