OctWare's SoftEcho License Backup
Hi,
I need to reinstall my trixbox system. From experimenting I messed it up pretty badly. Luckily it's only an experimental box.
Do you need to backup your softecho licenses or would it register by itself when you register it on the new installation. I do not want to loose them.
Also, I know that the registration ties to your eth0 mac address. With the Sangoma products, does this do the same thing or are you able to put your card on a different machine and register it without any problems?
I can not find any info in the net anywhere.
On page 10 of the installation guide located in the base tarball package at this link:
http://www.octasic.com/en/octware/zaptel.php
They talk about it. I have the Sangoma card with built in licenses and it has let me re-register on different machines. If you bought the license you probably need to backup as explained below
It is EXTREMELY important to BACKUP the files found in /var/lib/octware/licenses directory.
This directory contains the Host-ID specific license files for the current system. These
licenses are locked to the MAC address of the Ethernet devices found on the system.
Creating a backup of this directory will allow a complete restoration of the OCTVQE channels
that were licensed using the register utility when doing a new operating system installation.
This will prevent unnecessary interactions with your key distributor, requesting authorization
to increment the Activation-Key that was already used.
Here
It would be really interesting to do a comparison of Octasic's solution vs. the Mark II Agressive.

I have used both and find that the Octasic solution is a lot better than Mark II. What happens with Mark II is that there is a lot of echo at first and then it learns the echo. This is not the case with Soft Echo, no echo from the start. It just works.
I had to tweak softecho a bit to suite my echo profile, but work perfectly now!
heh.. thanks. I guess I'll buy a license to test.
