1.1.4.14 Initial thoughts
I have found 1.1.4.14 a big improvement for both GXP2000 and BT200 phones. However, the HOLD button no longer works on the BT200. (It's OK on the GXP2000). Grandstream have confirmed that "this is bug and we will fix it in next f/w release." Just be aware of this if you choose to instal it on BT200s. - Martin
I have also upgraded my gxp2000 to 1.1.4.14 and I have to report an extremely annoying problem. Whenever I lift up the handset, there is a very loud but short bleeping noise. I think that the microphone is picking up the clicking sound of the hook-switch as the handset is lifted. I guess that the microphone is sensitive enough to generate some audio feedback for a fraction of a second. (When Grandstream update their software again, perhaps they can disable/ignore the microphone for the first two seconds after the handset is lifted.)
For anyone who uses their phone constantly through out the day, this problem will quickly drive them crazy.
If this problem happens to other people, I can foresee thousands of gxp2000s being binned immediately. Look out for gxp2000 sales on ebay.
By moving the handset microphone to various locations, I have discovered that the audio feedback is not caused by the clicking of the hook-switch. What is really happening is that the microphone is picking up noise coming directly from the base unit speaker (as the handset is being lifted off-hook).
This problem should not be difficult to fix.
We've started testing on the new firmware, just 2 phones so far. Vast improvement on voice quality, especially using hands free. Crisp voice, low noise, i'm very pleased so far. I do get a little bit of a cherp when the handset is lifted, sounds like a little feedback from the speaker but last only a half-second. So far i give it a thumbs up. I had very little problems with the Grandstream phones before, my only issue was the hands free quality was not good, this firmware upgrade fixed that problem.

I agree with Lo-rez that 1.1.4.14 has louder background/white noise with the handset. The background noise level of 1.1.1.14 was quieter, and for me, much more comfortable.
Perhaps the louder background/white noise level is contributing to the chirping sound when the handset is lifted.
Since grandstream has not actually released this firmware would 'next release' give hope that the 'official' 1.1.4.14 might include a fix for this problem when it appears on the grandstream firmware release site? If they are not still tweaking 1.1.4.14 why haven't they put it up? I am sure no one knows. Just musing myself I guess.
My (4) GXP-2000s came with 1.1.3.2 installed and there have been several firmware releases between that and the "official" 1.1.1.14. Grandstream even had a press release concerning this version so I am guessing that it's official.
Sounds more like the web guy just hasn't updated the site in a while.
reubanks, I think you are confusing 1.1.1.14 (the last official version) and 1.1.4.14, which is the interim (not even official beta) that we're talking about here. This interim version can be had at www.grandstreamsucks.com - Martin
Further thought after a week or so of 1.1.4.14:
On the GXP2000, the echo is less and the "pop" has gone - two big improvements. Other functions seem to be OK. The only downside that I've noticed is the "chirp" when you pick up the handset - annoying, but not a major issue for me.
On the BT200, however, I find that the echo during conversation is actually worse (not loud, but more frequent), the "white noise" is also more noticeable, and the HOLD button no longer works at all (an acknowledged bug - it cuts off the caller!) Caveat subterducens! (That's 'Let the downloader beware!' in Latin!)

Hi all,
I've tried updating a phone to the latest beta release. Sound quality is perhaps a little better than the previous 'stable' version I ran, but the significantly louder white-noise detracts from it. It all kind of just sounds like a bad quality analogue line now. ;)
I still get some slightly annoying 'reverb' effects when dialling a call centre, mostly from the keypad tones.
The handset pickup 'chirp' is already getting on my nerves, and will be audible down the other end of the office! For those who haven't experienced it yet - its like a screaming version of the GXP2000's reboot fart.
Here's hoping the final release will have these ironed out.
Alex
PS - having said all this, I quite like the GXP2000's for the money - just a shame they're not as polished as they could be.
Bugs are coming in thick and fast (ish) - might be worth holding off before committing a lot of phones to this (not-quite-yet-released) version:

* Major : (Jun30/07) Incoming call on second line - no voice after pickup call (headset or speaker), first line is OK Incoming call on first line worked well, the only way hot to enable sound on second line afte pickup call is to hold the line and resume call, before that there is no sound on both calling parties . - Pteppic
* Major : (Jun27/07) Speaker always on Speaker hisses even if no call active (HW v2.0). - Tigs
* Major : (Jun27/07) Line remains off hook after transfer After successfully transfering a call and hanging up, line1 remains illuminated red and off the hook. This is unacceptable! - JoeM
* Note : (Jun28/07) confirmed. HV=0.4 - ampster
Has anyone noticed the strange illumination behaviour of the LCD display? The illumination sometimes switches off before I have finished entering the telephone number I am dialling.
The illumination does not switch off after a fixed period of time after the first keyboard button is pressed, nor after a fixed period after the last keyboard button is pressed. The illumination seems to switch off after a completely random period of time.
Firmware 1.1.1.14 did not have this problem.
I think the improvements are immense so far, all of the issues I had with the units (Not a lot really) have disappeared. However, a new one seems to have appeared.
When I configure the set using the endpoint manager, I can not change any of the settings for the other line keys. Also when I change the Admin password, it does not save the new Admin password I have stored to the phone.
I am using as the admin password "admin" as per the Grandstream website.
Anyone else have such issues?
Andrew
Hi!
I mentioned this bug in my post "Attended call transfer issue - extension remains busy (looking for testers)" quite a while ago. Confirmed by several people, the moderator (!) asked me to contact GS support, they never answered.
Can you guys tell me (actually, try it out ;-) if this issue is fixed in the new firmware or if the bug is still there?
Thanks!
