GXW-4008 controlled by PC - can I do this?
Hi,
I wonder if anyone knows if this is possible:-
I have 6 phones (old analogue phones from the 1970s), and I want to connect them into a self contained little exchange. No external connection needed - I just need 6 phones, all able to connect to each other, and to be able to setup calls from pairs of them (changing pairs) with up to 3 calls going on at any one time.
I need to set them up so that which ones are connected to which, answering etc. can be controlled by a PC - essentially how the system works is I have a holding queue, each time a phone is picked up, it automatically goes into the queue and plays hold music. If there are two phones in the queue, they get connected to each other. At various points, all connected phones get dumped into the holding queue again, and pairs get connected. At these points, I'd be nice if any unconnected phones could be set to ring, because the ringing sound is so nice on these phones.
I'm thinking maybe a GXW-4008 with the phones connected, plus a PC running an asterisk distribution might be able to do this? Is it possible to have the GXW-4008 setup so that as soon as you pick up the phone, it is connected to Asterisk and can be routed through to another phone or to a please wait message? I don't want any dialling from the phones*, just to be able to auto-connect stuff, under the control of some scripts on the PC.
Or is there any cheaper way to do this? Ideally I don't want to use any PCI cards, as I want to take this setup around, so want to run a laptop.
Joe
* dialling is probably not possible anyway, as the phones are pulse dialling?
