Asterisk & phone freeze/lock up...SCCP system

Thought i would post this here as well...

Hi everyone,

We've got a big problem with our Trixbox. Here's the scoop:

We're running Trixbox 2.2, all the latest updates in the package manager and chan_sccp module. We have mostly 7940's running the 7.2.4 firmware (later firmware has been tried as well), a 7935, some Cisco ATA 186's, 2 7960's with 2 7914 modules each, and some 7910's. Total number of phones is about 75.

Now here's the problem: every so often (meaning a couple of times a day) someone will be using their phone, -either dialing out, checking voicemail, whatever-, and the phone will freeze up. On the phone side, it'll either show them as still connected to voicemail, or the call will disappear, but they can no longer pickup any line, none of the buttons work to do with regards to making a call (settings still works), and if you reset the phone by either unplugging it or soing a soft reset, the phone will sit at the registering screen forever.

In the mean time, when that one phone locks up, all the other phones in the entire organization will get kicked as well and will jump back to Configuring IP...

I've set verbose and debugs up to 10 and looked back through the full log many times, and was even *watching* the streaming output when it happened a few times, but asterisk doesn't throw a single error at those times.

The only way to get the system back up is to /etc/init.d/asterisk stop/start. Just doing an amportal restart (or even stop/start) says it shuts down asterisk, but when it tries to start it, it says asterisk is already running.

Here’s my site that has some of the pertinent config files (sccp.conf, etc). http://anthonyks.brinkster.net/

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! I can’t keep having the system go down randomly.

In my experience with SCCP,

In my experience with SCCP, it has been incredibly difficult to troubleshoot. Is there any reason why you can't switch over to SIP? SCCP has more features like the pre-defined park softkey, pickup, etc., but the SIP firmware is not bad and is for the most part stable. Also, the SIP firmware adds a Conference softkey that makes it incredibly easy to conference in other calls with one button push.

Lack of support for phones

The reason we can't go SIP is because there is no SIP firmware nor support for Cisco 7935, 7936 conference phones, nor for the 7914 expansion modules for a 7940/60/70

Gotcha, sorry I should have

Gotcha, sorry I should have caught that.

When you installed the chan_sccp module, you re-compiled Asterisk correct? Also, did you disable chan_skinny?

Re:

Yep, I had to recompile Asterisk and it won't run correctly if the chan_skilly mod is loaded as well. This is the 3rd time i've installed it... meaning, we've had this on-going issue for a while and I've tried different hardware (completely different servers and T1 cards) and as many 'updates' out there as possible (even some downgrades when it comes to the Cisco firmware) and the phones lock up at least once a day and asterisk needs to be kicked.

I'm in the same boat

I have the exact same problems on a system I set up. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I'm trying to stick with SCCP simply because of the park button. I would even settle for a workaround to parking if possible.
