Call waiting problem on Cisco 7960 and 7640 phones

I am currently using 12 Cisco 7940 and 7960 on Trixbox version 2.2. The phones are great, but I have a problem with “call waiting”. Every time a user is on the phone and another call comes in, they hear a clicking sound, which makes hard for them to hear the other caller on the current call. (We have round robin queue setup for an 8-user call center). I have turned off call waiting on the phones, I have even turned off this feature on xmlDefault.CNF.XML file in the /tftpboot directory, but I still get that annoying click. Has anyone been able to turn off this feature completely?

call waiting

I have 7940 and 7960 phones and I am able to turn on and off call waiting by going to settings 6, 5 and its works good, I use firmware 7.4, which one you use? Firmware change could possibly solve your problem

call waiting

I am using 7.4 to. I am running some tests right now. Do you know if the xmlDefault.CNF.XML setting can over rides the user setting if there is a reboot?

Problem Fixed

Its was my mistake.

I was using a cisco 7960. I had the same SIP account setup on all 6 lines (bad!!!). To turn the call waiting off , i had to turn off call waiting on all extensions (6 lines on the Cisco 7960). If you turn it off on line 1 and leave line 2 active, then , if line one is busy(on a call), it will ring line two which happens to be the same SIP account, thus creating the call waiting "buzz" sound.

Solution:
======
1. Have only one line setup on the phone. (quick fix, but not a true solution).
2. Setup a different SIP accounts for every line. And turn off call wating on the lines you want.(this works for me).

There is an easier way

There is an easier way now:

Simply go into FreePBX, go to your QUEUE and change "SKIP BUSY AGENTS" to YES.

Boom, done.
