upgrade22-24
Is there a simple upgrade for people using 2.0 or 2.2 to the new 2.3 or 2.4 version?
The simple answer is no. First off, we never provide upgrades to beta versions so there would never be an upgrade path to 2.3 (beta of 2.4) anyway. With the final release of 2.4 we had to make the decision to NOT provide an upgrade path from previous versions. We are not confident in the upgrade from CentOS 4.x to 5.0 because it is upgrading a LOT of operating system components as well as Asterisk and Zaptel and possibly the entire dashboard and FreePBX depending on what you currently have installed.
This is not a decision that we make lightly but we are going to sacrifice the ease of upgrading with making sure that you will have a stable and reliable system.
So is there a not-so-simple upgrade to 2.4?
The best way to upgrade to 2.4 when it comes out will be to use the trixbox or FreePBX backup and restore tools. If you are using FreePBX, upgrade it to the most current version available, do a complete backup and copy the files to another machine. Bring up a new box loaded with 2.4, copy the backup file to it, and use FreePBX to restore the information. This will get you back up and running. If you are using tools such as the Endpoint Manager, you should see if the trixbox backup tool is available for your version of the system and use it to backup all the FreePBX information as well as all of the mySQL and tftpboot information. Do NOT have it backup all of the trixbox modules as they will be different than on the 2.4 box.
What if someone else writes an update script?
It in entirely possible that someone will write a script to update your system and do all of the other system updates. Because this is not going to be a supported configuration, this system would not qualify for any annual support contracts through Fonality.
